Starting therapy for the first time or re-engaging after taking a break can feel daunting and overwhelming both emotionally and logistically - I get it!
My hope is that my office can be a place where people begin to feel empowered and excited about intervening to carve a way out of the hamster wheel of daily life, find relief from paralyzing experiences and cultivate a sense-of-self that independently fosters resilience.
I have worked with individuals across the lifespan for a myriad of presenting issues in diverse settings from schools, in-home programs, residential treatment and medical centers. Together we can observe and identify patterns of behavior and develop awareness on how these patterns impact daily functioning. We will cultivate a better understanding of how your family of origin impacts current relationships in order to improve current intimate relationships and strive to deepen your connection, play and creativity in your daily life.
It can be incredibly vulnerable to seek support for your relationship - thank you for considering me!
At its best, partnership can make those challenges more manageable and at its hardest, our relationships can be the source of much of our stress. I believe the role of couples counseling is not to get to a resolution on a specific issue (although that may occur) but to help partners learn how to have conflict effectively and in a way that supports intimacy building.
I enter couples therapy work from a structural family therapy mindset: it’s not one person’s fault or one person who needs to change but rather the negative and reinforcing cycle between the people that needs to find a new path. My training in movement observation as a dance/movement therapist, helps me highlight how nonverbal communication can be contributing to underlying dynamics.
My authenticity can support each person feeling heard and experience empathy while gently encouraging change in the moment. My experience of working for over a decade with children and adolescents in a variety of clinical environments makes me a great fit for parents looking for co-parenting support and/or navigating supporting children with unique social emotional challenges.
